Will this exactly turn it dark as it was when it was relaxed? I thought this is meant for turning the hair brown.

Sometimes  it is the texture of the hair, and  sometimes  results from the chemicals  people  apply in their  hair  but all colour's are good  depending on what  one likes.

People reach an extent of making it  that colour that you hate, so allow it the way it is  if it doesn't bother you much.
